Paying Safely
Jobsido is not responsible for payments or refunds. Once you've met the seller, inspected the item, and come to an agreement, it's time to finalize the deal. There are several options for transferring money in person. Let’s explore the benefits and risks of each method.
Deposits
- • Caution Advised: Requesting or offering deposits for items listed on the site is not recommended. However, some sellers may insist on one.
- • Best Practice: Never pay a deposit unless you are completely comfortable with the transaction. If you have seen the item and still have reservations about leaving a deposit, consider moving on to another deal.
Cash
- • Advantages: Cash is often the safest option for sellers because it’s the hardest to counterfeit.
- • Precautions: However, it’s important to know how to recognize counterfeit currency. Carrying cash as a buyer has its own risks and can be less convenient. Assess your situation to decide the best option for you.
Cheques
- • Risks: Cheques can be easier to fake than cash, and there’s no guarantee they won’t bounce.
- • Safety Tip: If you choose to accept a cheque, request a certified cheque. Accompany the seller to the bank to cash it before finalizing the transaction.
Preferred Secure Cashless Payment Methods
- • Recommendations: As a safe alternative to cash, consider using a third-party cashless payment method, such as electronic money transfers (e.g., Interac e-Transfer).
- • Avoid Mailing: Never mail a cheque or wire money to sellers. Services like Western Union or MoneyGram should be avoided, as they are commonly used by scammers. Always aim to keep transactions local!
